Samwe is a guitarist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger who has played rock, jazz, and classical music since childhood. He has studied Western composition and theory in Michigan and Boston, and African musical traditions in Mali and Niger. He counts among his strongest influences Ali Farka Toure, Soundgarden, St. Vincent, and Tinariwen. His work grows from the dark side of the roots of rock music, combining propulsive beats and sharp-edged harmonies. He wears cufflinks made from human teeth.
